About Abbye
Abbye practices in the firm’s Commercial Litigation group with a focus on business, constitutional and civil rights, tort and complex mortgage foreclosure litigation. She represents a variety of clients including, community, regional and national banks and businesses, associations and individuals.
As a commercial and business litigation practitioner, Abbye has handled everything from breach of contract claims to landlord tenant disputes. She also has extensive experience with complex civil litigation including, intentional and negligent torts, collection and payment cases and real property matters.
Prior to joining Burr, Abbye worked for the Orange County Public Defender’s Office as a Certified Legal Intern and later as an Assistant Public Defender (APD). Through her APD work, Abbye gained solid trial experience which she has further built upon at Burr & Forman. To date she has tried numerous bench and jury trials in Circuit Civil Court, County Civil Court and Small Claims Court and has acted as voir dire through closing arguments on many occasions. Additionally, she has been 2nd Chair for four federal jury trials.
Representative Experience
Represented a Florida community bank related to complex mortgage foreclosures, reformation of contract and equitable subrogation.
Represented a homeowners association related to collection matters.
Represented clients related to their actions against government entities including, but not limited to improper conduct and false imprisonment.
Represented students in public school and university disciplinary hearings.

What community projects are you involved in?
In recent years, I have been involved with Habitat for Humanity as a committee member and organized a walk team for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Currently, I am an involved parent in my daughters’ school and am assisting a friend and colleague of mine with her campaign for a seat as a local county judge.
What was your first job?
Assistant teacher at a daycare center.
What advice would you give to a young student in law school?
If you are interested in litigation take advantage of the Certified Legal Internship program if your school offers one.
How do you spend your weekend?
I enjoy spending time with my husband, daughters and friends. We take regular nature walks, visit parks for playtime, enjoy traveling and make frequent trips to Disney World.
