About Paul
Paul practices in the Litigation section, focusing primarily on mass tort and complex litigation with particular emphasis on product liability litigation. He serves as Chair of the firm’s Tort Trial & Insurance Practice section (TIPS). He has served as a National Trial Counsel and as Regional Counsel for defendants in mass tort litigation. His experience also includes commercial and insurance litigation, medical device litigation, FELA and ERISA litigation.
Chambers USA, the highly regarded legal directory that is based upon actual client interviews, listed Paul as a “Leader in their Field” in 2009 and 2010, and he was also named as a leading commercial litigator in the 2008 editions of Chambers USA. In addition, Paul is listed in The Best Lawyers in America in the area of Mass Tort Litigation. He is a member of the American Bar Association (Tort and Insurance Practice Section of Litigation, and Trial Practice Committee). He also belongs to the Alabama State Bar, the Birmingham Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute (Committee on Industry-wide Litigation), and the International Association of Defense Counsel. Paul is a member of the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Alabama, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He has been a speaker at national litigation seminars and serves as head of the firm’s Tort Trial & Insurance Litigation section.
A 1984 graduate of Cumberland School of Law at Samford University, Paul served on the Moot Court Board and was selected to the Order of the Barristers. He was also Captain of the Jessup Competition Moot Court Team. He received his B.A. in Natural Sciences from the University of South Florida.
What is a perfect day for you?
Any day during our family’s annual summer vacation in North Carolina that includes our three daughters, the son-in-law, a fiance, and grandchildren as we laugh, golf, play tennis, hike, and have family meals together and end the day with nightly game competitions.
What was your first job?
At age 13, scrapping paint off of houses for a painter in the hot, humid coastal Texas climate where I grew up.
