Fred practices in the firm’s Business section and has broad experience in corporate acquisitions and mergers, particularly in connection with the communications industry. He has handled financing, acquisitions, and dispositions and leasing in a substantial number of major complex real estate transactions. He has been involved in all phases of commercial banking and the representation of major institutional lenders and other financial institutions.
Fred is listed in The Best Lawyers in America in the Real Estate, Banking and Corporate categories. He was named the 2009 “Birmingham Best Lawyers Real Estate Lawyer of the Year”. He is a Fellow of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys and a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers. He is listed as one of the top three Alabama real estate lawyers in the 2003 and 2004 edition of Chambers USA America’s Leading Business Lawyers, including being named in 2009 and 2010 as a “Leader in the Field”. In addition, Fred was selected for inclusion in Alabama Super Lawyers 2008, 2009 and 2010.
Fred is a member of the American Bar Association, the Alabama State Bar and the Birmingham Bar Association. He is past chair of the Real Property Section of the Alabama State Bar. He served as chairman of the Economics of Law Committee of the Birmingham Bar Association. Fred received both his B.S. and his LL.B. from the University of Alabama. He was admitted to the Alabama Bar in 1959.
