About Larry

Larry practices in the firm’s Business and Litigation sections with a focus on Creditors’ Rights & Bankruptcy, as well as Commercial Finance and Banking. He is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy, a Director of the Association of Insolvency & Restructuring Advisors and a member of the LL.M. Bankruptcy Advisory Committee at St. John’s University School of Law.

Larry is a past Director of the American Bankruptcy Institute, Chairman of the American Board of Certification, Director of the Turnaround Management Association (President of the Tennessee Chapter, 1999-2001) and the Mid-South Commercial Law Institute (President, 1986-87). He has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America® for 24 consecutive years in the practice areas of Business Reorganization, Creditors’ Rights, and Bankruptcy Litigation. In 2009 and 2010, he was named as a leading practitioner in Bankruptcy Litigation by the highly regarded Chambers USA, a legal directory featuring client-led intelligence on America’s leading lawyers for business. In addition, Who’s Who Legal also selected Larry for “The International Who’s Who of Insolvency & Restructuring Lawyers 2010”, an honor based on the peer and client research. He was named to the 2009 and 2010 Mid-South Super Lawyers list and the inaugural national publication, Super Lawyers Business Edition. He was listed in the Top 100 Tennessee Lawyers list and was also recognized as one of the Nashville Business Journal’s “Best of the Bar” for his work in Bankruptcy.

Larry also served on the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Specialization (Chair, 1996-2000). He is a member of the Tennessee State Bar Association (House of Delegates, 1991-1995; Chair of Commercial, Banking and Bankruptcy Law Section, 1995-1996; Conclave on Legal Education in Tennessee, 1996-1997; Joint Study Committee on UCC, 1996; Special Counsel on Insurance Solvency, 2002-2003), the American Bar Association (Member, Business Law Section and Task Force on Insurance Insolvency) and the Nashville Bar Foundation.

Larry has authored and co-authored numerous publications, the most recent including: 2005 Bankruptcy Reform Legislation with Analysis 2d (Thomson West 2006); Bankruptcy Procedure Manual (Thomson West 2009); Bankruptcy Exemption Manual (Thomson West 2009); Environmental Obligations in Bankruptcy (Thomson West 2009); Homestead and Other Exemptions Under the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005: Observations on “Asset Protection” After 2005 (13 ABI Law Review 585, 2005).

Larry has also presented on various topics for the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges, American Bankruptcy Institute, Turnaround Management Association, Southeastern Bankruptcy Law Institute, among many other organizations.

Outside of practicing law, Larry also enjoys teaching. He served at Vanderbilt University Law School as an Instructor in Law from 1997-1998, and currently serves as an Adjunct Professor, teaching Secured Transactions. He was also Visiting Professor for Secured Transactions & Banking in the Fall of 2002 at Cumberland School of Law.

Larry earned both his B.A., 1969, and J.D., 1972, from Vanderbilt University. He is admitted to practice before the Federal Courts in Tennessee (all districts), the Sixth and Third Circuits, the Eastern District of Michigan and the U.S. Supreme Court.
